The Mexican red rump tarantula is a spider endemic to Mexico. It gets its name from the red bristles on their abdomen.
Size: 12-15 cm
Color: These spiders’ bodies are velvety black, with red hairs on their abdomen.
Other Characteristic Features: Their bodies are covered with urticating setae.

Females lay 100-300 eggs inside a sac, though sometimes 500 eggs have been observed.
The spiderlings are a pale yellow color. Males reach sexual maturity at 4 years while females do so at 7.
They use webbing to detect movements around them.
Though this spider can be aggressive, its venom is not fatal to humans.
